Background: Cynthia Hoff holds a Master of Music in Vocal Performance Pedagogy at Arizona State University where she studied with Dr. Jerry Doan, Dr. Andrew Campbell, Professor Dale Dryfoos and Dr. William Reber. She received a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Grand Canyon University under the vocal teaching of Dr. Sheila Corley. Born and raised in Madison, Wisconsin, Cynthia’s first vocal study began at the University Of Wisconsin School Of Music in Madison with Ilona Kombrink. Prior to moving to the southwest she attended Oberlin Conservatory of Music and studied with Helen Hodam.

Her performances include various roles in Lyric Opera and Musical Theatre including; the role Gertrude, in Hansel and Gretel; Tuptim, in The King and I; soprano soloist in a concert performance of opera choruses performing the Brindisi, from La traviata, and Maria, in scenes from West Side Story. Roles performed in opera scenes at Arizona State University include: Arminda, from La Finta Giardiniera; Agathe, from Der Freischutz; Mimi from La Boheme; and Nellie Clark in the premiere performance of composer Karl Schindler’s, Ghost Voices: Songs from a Cemetery. A versatile soprano, Cynthia has performed in recitals including several community oratorio performances, as soloist in Handel’s Messiah, Mozart’s Laudate Dominum, and selections from Mendelssohn’s Elijah. She has performed in prestigious choirs that have toured the United States and Europe, soloing in Carnegie Hall, as well as Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. An active soloist within the Phoenix community Cynthia has sung the National Anthem at Bank One Ball Park, performs regularly for the Arizona Christian Women’s Club, various churches and fundraising events throughout the valley. A composer of mostly religious music, she has recorded two of her original songs, A Tribute to Love, and A Goodnight Prayer, as well as a full length CD of inspiring hymns. Most recently she is the 2006 2nd place National Winner in the American Mothers Association Vocal Competition, and was featured as a guest in several public concerts in the Ukraine. In the spring of 2007 she was the guest artist with the San Tan Chorale under the directorship of Mathew Frable performing the Rutter Requiem, and again in the spring of 2010 performing the Mozart Requiem as the soprano soloist.

She is on the music faculty of Chandler Gilbert Community College and maintains a private studio out of her home in Gilbert. Mrs. Hoff’s students have been NATS Winners, Arizona All State and Regional Choir participants, including one student who was first chair in the soprano division. Several of her students have pursued vocal pursuits at the college level, performed leading roles in local community musical theatre and one student has gone on to record original music in Nashville.

She is actively involved as a vocal adjudicator for vocal auditions, participates in the choral and worship ministry at Gold Canyon United Methodist Church, and has held various leadership roles in church music/women’s ministry.

She and her husband have lived in Arizona now for over twenty years, and have two wonderful young adult children. Ryan, a junior at ASU, and Lindsay a senior at Highland High School.

Hobbies: I enjoy being in the mountains, hiking, golfing and camping with my family!

Other Info: Mrs. Hoff sings soprano with the Phoenix Symphony Chorus, is the soprano soloist and member of the Chancel Choir at Gold Canyon United Methodist Church, and has held various leadership roles in church music/women’s ministry.
